In addition to the opportunities for individual professional learning that have been gathered and shared at the Global Belonging website there’s also an opportunity for everyone in the Global Division and Academic Initiatives Group to participate in an antiracism professional development session facilitated by Dr. Whitney Peoples entitled ‘Naming & Disrupting Cultures & Practices of Whiteness: Transforming Teaching & Learning Contexts.’ This online session, hosted by the Poorvu Center, will take place on March 10th at 1pm (see further details at the link, below).
The session is designed to introduce participants to the critical race framework of whiteness and its relevance to broader DEIB efforts within the Global Division of a curricular, instructional, and structural nature. Dr. Peoples is a feminist scholar and facilitator who serves as the Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and in this role has led exemplary efforts focused on issues of equity and justice in higher education.
Please plan to participate and be sure to fill out your registration (at the link below) as soon as possible so we may appropriately plan the session with Dr. Peoples.
